The Fleming Oscillation Valve by British scientist John Ambrose Fleming as a detector for early radio frequencies used in electromagnetic wireless telegraphy. It was the first practical vacuum tube, as well as the first thermionic diode, which is a vacuum tube that conducts current in one direction while blocking current in the other. The invention by Fleming is now included in the IEEE's List of Electrical Engineering Milestones because the IEEE regards it as one of the most significant accomplishments in electronic history.
