Russian physicist, radio engineer and cellist Leo Theremin invented the eponymous electronic Theremin musical instrument in 1925. The instrument is unusual because it is played without being touched. The Theremin is a box comprising two metal antennas that create an electromagnetic field. The first true 'electronic' instrument, the original Theremin was featured in the Beach Boys' Good Vibrations. Almost a century after its invention, this namesake instrument is still mysterious and inspires audiences worldwide.
