This is the design for the first Kodak "Box Camera", as it would soon become known. In 1888, George Eastman improved the camera by providing new designs for the case, shutter, and the film holder. He pioneered this extremely portable design, creating a rectangular box cube to house the parts of the camera and created a new lens support and shutter to go along with his design. The roller holder was designed for convenience and would only be exposed to the lighting from the lens. Eastman’s invention was the first instance of the camera being made available to the masses, as well as being extremely convenient to use - ushering a whole new era.
