In 1967, James Powell and Gordon Danby made a significant contribution on train transportation. Using superconducting magnets to effect an electromagnetic induction with the track bed, a suspension force is generated which enables the train to float above the ground. Propulsion methods are then used to advance the train. Electromagnetic trains are more commonly known today as Maglevs, trains that are capable of travelling at high speeds.
