The invention by John Deere was meant to create a more secure and long-lasting method of joining plow standards to the inner surface of the mold-board than was previously available, while also allowing for easy separation of these components on the fly. In modern application, the invention is used to provide a system of preserving the landside and sharing it so that if one of these components wears out or breaks, it can be replaced with another of comparable shape and structure therefore easy and cheap to maintain.
